FAVOURITE JOCKEY?

All-time favourite has to be Kieran Fallon, by some distance. For me, he was a genius in the saddle and a top class horseman.
Of the current crop, I have loved watching the rise of Jim Crowley and think James Doyle is a superb jockey.
Dougie Costello and Martin Lane have ridden brilliantly for Crowd Racing, and Adam Kirby has done us more than one favour in saddle.
Apprentices David Parkes and William Cox have also done very well for us, David especially with Born To Finish in the early days. William will be a star, he has real talent.

FAVOURITE ALL TIME HORSE?

If I discount all the Crowd Racing horses, this is the easiest one for me. Double Trigger. Brave, talented, consistent and my favourite.
Trained by Mark Johnston, I was at Redcar the day he won on his debut by 10 lengths over 1m1f after being behind with around 2.5f to run. Blew me away and I was hooked.
He went on to win 14 of 29 races in his career, including a breathtaking performance in the 1995 Ascot Gold Cup and an emotional performance in the Goodwood Cup in the same year as he beat his full brother Double Eclipse, by a neck giving his younger brother 21lbs!
Bosra Sham, Sayyedati, Celtic Swing, Opera House and Ulysses are all racehorses I have affection for, with Ulysses my current favourite in racing but none have come close to Double Trigger.
Acom as the first Crowd Racing horse, Born To Finish as our first winner and The Detainee as a horse that had been written off but then came good will all have a permanent place in my heart, but I have tried to be non-biased!

FIRST EVER EXPERIENCE OF RACING?

My father was never a big racing fan, but my grandfather and uncle were huge fans and it was through them that I started to follow racing. Then various jobs brought me closer to the racing world, mainly when working in a hotel just outside Thirsk which was full of owners, jockeys trainers and bookmakers. A fascinating place where I learned so much from just watching and listening. My first time at the races was to see Salse win the 1986 Beeswing Stakes at Newcastle for the late great, Sir Henry Cecil under Steve Cauthen, a beautiful horse who went on to be a star.

WHY GET INVOLVED IN RACEHORSE OWNERSHIP?

When working at the hotel near Thirsk, it became an ambition to own a racehorse or a share of a racehorse. I tried various syndicates a few years ago and felt there was an opportunity to do things better. Hopefully, Crowd Racing will deliver this!

WHICH RACECOURSE / RACE THAT YOU ARE YET TO ATTEND, WOULD YOU LIKE TO ATTEND?

I am looking forward to the day I am at the Dubai World Cup. An amazing event and also one that is very accessible. A runner there would be the ultimate dream, but we are a little way off that just now.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE PERSONALITY IN RACING CURRENTLY?

I am massive Jason Weaver fan, that is a I am a massive fan not a fan of massive Jason Weaver (to steal a Luke Harvey line). He was the man sat on Double Trigger for most of those memories, so that helps but I do think he is an excellent presenter, and very shrewd judge with a great sense of fun and humour.

WHICH HORSE CURRENTLY IN TRAINING WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO OWN?

UAE King, trained by Roger Varian would be a fabulous horse to own. Regally bred and had an excellent 2017, I think he will be a horse well worth following this year. If he has strengthened up over the winter, he should be a serious contender for all the good races over a trip. Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup etc.

RACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO OWN THE WINNER OF THE MOST?

The Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Love the race, and to have the winner in Crowd Racing colours would be phenomenal!

I am not that picky though, a Brigadier Gerard, an Eclipse or a Northumberland Plate would all be superb.

FAVOURITE RACE COURSE?

I have been fortunate enough to visit the majority of UK racecourses, and I have a short list of Ascot, Goodwood, Cheltenham, Sandown, York and Thirsk but Windsor is my favourite.

The whole ambience of a Monday night at Windsor, from taking boat up the Thames and into a beautiful racecourse, has made Windsor a firm favourite of mine.

WHAT IRKS YOU MOST IN RACING?

That racing doesn’t seem to be able to be seen by those outside of the sport as nothing but a bi-product of the betting industry. It is important, but horse racing isn’t defined by gambling.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST POSITIVE CHANGE IN RECENT RACING?

The recent increase in prize money is good, but not yet enough. I think the most positive change has been the move to ITV of what was Channel4 Racing. There is undoubtedly a wider audience, and a more diverse audience and I think the new fresh approach is excellent.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACED BY RACING?

Those 2 words, prize money again. It is very difficult to make owning a racehorse work as prize money is too low. This does need looked at, and some solution found.

IF YOU COULD SEND ANY MARE TO ANY STALLION, WHICH COMBINATION WOULD YOU LIKE TO OWN?

Tough question, but I think I would send Oaks winner Taghrooda to Frankel. For any mare to be rated as highly as she was by connections is more than good enough for me, and surely she would have won the Arc with a better draw?

BEST EXPERIENCE AS AN OWNER TO DATE?

Born To Finish winning on 31st December at Lingfield. The pressure for us to have a winner was really growing and BTF had been becoming disappointing before his wind-op. The way he picked up and went clear in the last furlong will live long in the memory.

Welcome to Crowd Racing

Crowd Racing is one of the UK’s most innovative Racehorse Ownership and Experience companies.

We offer ownership shares in racehorses and racehorse ownership experiences in the UK and Europe, via our "Crowds". By joining a Crowd, you will become a registered owner of that racehorse for a fixed period of time, for a fixed cost. At the end of the period, you will get to vote on whether we keep the horse(s) but will never be committed to remaining as part of that Crowd irrespective of the vote result.

Crowd Racing offers various ownership packages on a transparent, one-off cost basis with no hidden charges.

Depending on the level of package purchased, share owners received a variety of racehorse owner benefits; All owners are entitled to their pro-rata share of prize-money and re-sale of the horse at the end of the defined period.

While we will always strive to buy racehorses for our owners which will win races and increase in value, the costs involved in training and running a racehorse plus the relatively low levels of prize money in the UK, make showing an upside on the initial investment made by owners very difficult and somewhat rare.

Shares bought in horses via Crowd Racing, should always be viewed as a social investment with no expectation of any financial upside. We can guarantee you will love being involved and have some wonderful experiences but we cannot guarantee you will make money.
