As sire of the Crowd Racing horse The Detainee, the story of stallion Aqlaam is well worth knowing.
Trained by leading trainer William Haggas, Aqlaam was a progressive miler who placed on his only 2yr old start. Quickly progressing on to bigger and better things in his 3yr old year.
Eight subsequent race outings delivered no fewer than four victories, with most of these coming in valuable and prestigious contests. Amongst Aqlaam’s most impressive wins were the Group Three Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Group Two Summer Mile Stakes at the same course and a top class Group One contest at Longchamp in France. In the race in France, Aqlaam actually beat the sire of ex-Crowd Racing horse Sparkling Cossack (Famous Name), small world racing!
Reaching a career high official rating of 120 in late 2009, Aqlaam retired to stud and went on to sire a string of progeny who themselves have delivered notable racecourse performances. In fact, 113 of the stallion’s offspring have run in flat races and an impressive 62 of them have found their way to the winner’s enclosure.
At the July Tattersalls sales, Light And Shade sold for 155,000 GNS. Out a Pivotal mare, Tara Moon, this Aqlaam mare will be very interesting both on the track and at stud.
Perhaps Aqlaam’s most notable progeny to date is the four year old bay filly, Dancing Star (rated 108) who has run in a string of high profile races including the recent Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. That filly accounts for five of the total 125 race wins notched up – at time of writing – by Aqlaam offspring, which together with a multitude of places has netted connections of those horses a total of £1,354,164 in prize money.
Sadly, Aqlaam died in 2013 while at the Shadwell Stud. Bringing a promising stud career to a very premature end, his bloodline will live on through his progeny.
Given the quality surrounding this wonderful racehorse, there is little surprise that hopes are high for The Detainee’s future.

Our Customers - Our Owners. The Crowd.
While we will always strive to buy racehorses for our owners which will win races and increase in value, the costs involved in training and running a racehorse plus the relatively low levels of prize money in the UK, make showing an upside on the initial investment made by owners very difficult and somewhat rare.
Shares bought in horses via Crowd Racing, should always be viewed as a social investment with no expectation of any financial upside. We can guarantee you will love being involved and have some wonderful experiences but we cannot guarantee you will make money.
